Microlocs are small, uniform locs formed using a tightly woven foundation, ideal for tightly textured hair. Their narrow diameter makes them easy to manage, versatile to style, and perfect for those seeking a polished, low-maintenance look.
Like Sisterlocks, Microlocs require commitment and regular maintenance and still offer a unique way to celebrate natural hair and enjoy a distinct loc style.
Size and Uniformity: Microlocs are slightly larger than Sisterlocks® and uniform in size. They do not typically have a precise parting grid system, however have a neat appearance.
Maintenance: Like Sisterlocks®, Microlocs require regular maintenance, involving re-tightening each individual loc. This should be done to keep the locs looking well-groomed.
Versatility: Microlocs allow for various hairstyles. Styles include updos to loose curls, and they can be adorned with beads, ribbons, or other accessories.
Scalp Health: Microlocs gentle on the hair follicles. They allow for better airflow and reduce the tension on the scalp, making them a suitable choice for individuals concerned about scalp health.

Universal Locs Studio serves busy professionals and their families who lead active, fast-paced lives. Our clients value the privacy of our studio and the personalized, one-on-one attention they receive from an experienced stylist. It’s a space where they can unwind, recharge, and enjoy a moment of luxury.
While both are small and versatile, Microlocs typically use a wider range of parting patterns and installation methods, including interlocking or two-strand twists. They offer more flexibility in maintenance and pricing compared to the trademarked Sisterlocks™ system, which requires certified consultants and specific tools.
Retightening is generally recommended every 4–8 weeks, depending on your hair texture, growth rate, and personal preferences. Staying on a consistent schedule helps maintain the integrity of your locs and prevents matting at the roots.
While it's best to let freshly installed Microlocs settle for a few weeks before heavy styling, light manipulation such as gentle updos or loose buns is typically fine. Over time, as your locs mature, you’ll enjoy even more styling flexibility and durability.
