Traditional locs are larger locs that were the first to be established in the Rastafarian culture. However it is now common to be chosen as a lifestyle among many walks of life. Traditional size locs only differ in size and can be achieved with several different techniques.
At Universalocs Studio, our Traditional Locs are usually crafted with a one-inch base parting or larger, giving them a fuller appearance and a strong, classic foundation.
We use the interlocking method to maintain each loc, ensuring a neater, more uniform look that lasts longer between maintenance sessions.
This approach not only supports healthy hair growth but also offers a low-maintenance routine for those who prefer simplicity without compromising style or quality.
Size and Uniformity: Traditional Locs are larger than Micolocs and uniform in size. They do not typically have a precise parting grid system, however have a range of neat to rugged appearance.
Maintenance: Traditional locs require the least maintenance, involving retightening 8 -12 weeks. The maintenance varies depending on personal preference, growth and size of the loc . This should be done to keep the locs looking well-groomed.
Versatility: Traditional Locs have been considered the least versatile of the loc family but have been known for their regal appearance. Styling can definitely be achieved with two strand twist, updos, fishtails braids, barrels, curls and braid out that are very similar to the smaller locs.
Scalp Health: Traditional locs require a regular schedule of maintenance, cleaning, and moisture that is normal for all hair care. Loc care is based on texture and prescriptive for each individual for their hair to thrive.
